Biography

William C. Jarnagin (1879-1971) began his newspaper career as a proofreader on the old Des Moines Capital in 1901. He later worked as a reporter covering courts, police, and state government for the paper. He left the Capital and pursued jobs on various papers including the Des Moines News, the Sioux City Tribune, and the Cedar Falls Record. He returned to Des Moines and the Capital to become its city editor and then managing editor. In 1922, Jarnagin bought and became publisher of the Storm Lake Pilot-Tribune. He later purchased the Storm Lake Register. He remained the owner/editor/co-publisher until their sale in 1970. William Jarnagin was active in both professional and civic organizations. He was a past president of the Iowa Press Association and was honored as a master editor-publisher by that group. He was also a past president of the Storm Lake Chamber of Commerce.
