Imagine Peace / Zellen, Jody., 2008
In an enclosed letter with this book, a gift to the Sackners, Jody writes the following: "I wanted to share my latest book with you. I have been making drawings for the last few years and this practice has become something of a daily ritual. Each day I make a blind drawing (closing my eyes and marking marks on the paper) to a song on my ipod in addition to making a trace drawing from the daily newspaper (which I hold up to the window). -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.
In Search of Still / Zellen, Jody., 2007
This work is a radical change in visual imagery for Zellen, i.e., drawings rather than photographs but she still retains lettering in the work albeit now hand drawn in contrast to formal computer type lettering. The works that comprise Jody Zellen's works on paper from "Of a Lost Utopia," a gallery show at paul kopeikin gallery los angeles, are poetic meditations on the fragmented way she reads, retains and responds to the daily newspaper, using both old and new technologies. -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.
[Jabber] / Zellen, Jody., 1995
Words depicted in black text of different size typefaces representing visual sounds including vibration, jangle, crashing, explode, clank, jabber, and crash appear on an abstract background with a silhouette of a solitary figure. The image is part of Zellen's preoccupation with the violence present in large cities. -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.
