Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The Young Women's Resource Center (Des Moines, Iowa) records date from 1975 to 2015 and measure 5.0 linear inches. The records are arranged alphabetically and consist of annual reports, brochures, promotional materials, photographs, audiovisual, and several copies of "Deviance," a zine written by young women at the YWRC dealing with issues such as racism, sexism, and homophobia. The "Early records" files include financial records, meeting minutes, Director's reports, and correspondence pertaining to the beginning stages of the organization. The "Information packet for new board members" materials consist of a historical background of the organization, bylaws, early budgets, and descriptions concerning personnel policies, jobs, and performance evaluations. The "Reflections of Visionary Women" materials are from a banquet hosted by the YWRC honoring six Iowa women: Bonnie Campbell, Iowa's first woman attorney general; Willie Glanton, political activist and community leader; Mary Kramer, Iowa senator; Peggy Patrick, leader in the Des Moines area arts community; Sister Patricia Clare Sullivan, leading health-care executive, and Connie Wimer, a Des Moines, Iowa, business leader. The "Photographs" file includes photographs of Louise Noun and Charlotte Nelson. Several photographs are also from the Ms. Foundation for Women.
