Scope and Contents
Annette Lawrence is an African-American artist concerned with significant dates in her life. The drawing on a flattened, brown paper bag depicts spokes radiating from the center that consist of a series of two dates terminated with a large period. The dates mark the onset and termination of her menstrual periods from 1980-1994. Four thick vertical lines formed from her menstrual blood suggest an appearance of an incomplete cube, perhaps symbolizing absence of ovum fertilization. Lawrence was a participant in the Whitney Biennial 1997. -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.
