Scope and Contents

Rava's paintings and sculptures combine numbers, mathematical symbols and Hebrew letters in landscapes, animal forms, forests, clocks and planetary designs among other subjects. This exhbition of works by Rava was curated by Maria Luisa Trevisan and travelled to four additional venues. Arturo Schwarz contributed an essay titled "Tobia Rava, that is, of the insatiable thirst for knowledge, of the uncontrollable communicative throb" and an indepth interview with the artist. Venice Italy Internet: Rava (padua 1959), works in venice,has attended the international school of graphics in venice and urbino.he obtained a degree in semiology of arts of bologna university,disciple of umberto eco, renato barilli, omar calabrese, flavio caroli. he paints since 1971 and has exhibited since 1977 in personal and collective exhibitions in italy, belgium, croatia, france, germany, spain, brasil, argentina, japan, united states, south america and in the far east.in 1983 he is among the founders of the bologna group alcarte, active in bologna university (dams), with the intent on conjugating producting art with epistemology. Since 1988 he deals with hebrew iconography and together with gadi luzzato voghera and paolo navarro dina he carried out a research and filing of hebrew epigraphy in veneto, friuli venezia giulia and trentino alto adige.in 1993 he is among the promoters of the triplani group which, taking off from the double plane semiology of greimas and calabrese, takes its name from the hypothesis of a third level of symbolic reading, next to those of meaning and significant. in 1998 he is among the founding members of the contemporary art concert, a cultural association which propose itself to gather together artists with the same affinity to requalify mankind by putting it in syntony with the ambient and enable contemporary art to be conscious of its relation with history and art s history, also by interacting with exhibitions with parks, villas, historical buildings and squares in artistic cities. since 1999 he started a series of lectures, invited by universities and superior schools of art, based upon his activity in the context of hebraic culture, of mathematics logic and contemporary art. -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.
