Library University of Hamburg Internet: "While the avant-garde movements such as Futurism, Dadaism and Surrealism in the early 20th Century was one of the Russian avant-garde to the most important and was a leader in the development not only of abstract painting, but a new book designs. After the October Revolution of 1917 recognized ideologically for the construction of the new country, woke up the genre artist's book in Russia around 1985, during the perestroika, back to life and gained popularity - not only by the disappearance of censorship, but also as an art form, the could spread euphoria of those days; inspiration were the futuristic books of Russian avant-garde. The first exhibition of modern Russian artists book took place in 1990 in Leningrad instead, the exhibition, The Metamorphosis' is a small homage to it. It represents the interaction between the genres in the book arts at the center and examines how Russian artists in the last 25 years saw the book. In 50 works by 25 contemporary Russian artists are not only the differences and similarities in the creative processes of the artist visible, but also their individual developments. Time are the exhibited artists' books products carefully produced and aesthetically pleasing, then conceptual expressions that are less to take aesthetic and difficult. The exhibition presents works of LS Collection Van Abbemuseum Eindhoven , which was compiled in the 1990s by art historians Albert Lemmens and Serge Stommels. The selection shown shows a preference for the quality of craftsmanship in the execution of the book, to get projects of an experimental nature, challenge the classic function of the book in question.
