Scope and Contents

The documentation of this experimental lettriste film in the accompanying book was written by Frederique Devaux.Wikipedia: Treaty of drool and eternity is an experimental film French written and directed by Isidore Isou in 1951 , produced by Marc'O and mounted with the help of Maurice Lemaitre . Duration: 120 min. This is the first work of cinema Lettrist . This film caused a scandal at Cannes in 1951 and received the Prix Spectators Avant-Garde. This film is based on the principle Isou called discrepant assembly, which consists of a total disjunction between sound and image, processed independently without any meaningful relationship. Thus, the soundtrack consists of poems Lettrists (for generic and interludes), which is added a narrative telling the story of Daniel, author of a manifesto for a new cinema (the cinema discrepant) of his speech in front of a hostile audience and his love affair with a woman named Eve. The empowerment of its purpose to do to reach their full potential, regardless of the image, giving him all the stylistic richness of prose, becoming a real novel spoken (including process that inspires Chris Marker for his film Pier). The image track, meanwhile, consists largely of found footage , has a series of banal images: tsu wandering in the neighborhood of Saint-Germain-des-Pres or with personalities (like Cocteau or Cendrars ), fragments of Military Films recovered in bins military or gymnastic exercises filmed and plans News personalities of the time, as the actress Daniele Delorme. These images serve as a pretext for the use of carving, a process rendered painting, scraping or scratching the film directly, separating each frame, usually lost in the general movement of a film, to explore itself and annihilate. The image is found sometimes reduced to white or black screens throughout the film. This destructive phase of cinema called Cinema chiseling including film discrepant is only the first step and will be deepened in the same year by Maurice Lemaitre (The film has already begun?), then the following year by Gil J Wolman ( The Anticoncept ) and Guy Debord ( Howls for Sade). Isou will even propose, in 1952, the Film discussion, movie without film consists only of spectators Discussions about a possible film. Treaty of drool and eternity had a lasting influence on cinema in general and experimental cinema in particular, becoming a reference for filmmakers Nouvelle Vague (including Jean-Luc Godard and Alain Resnais ) and underground cinema U.S. (with Stan Brakhage ). There are also his influence in most films Debord or Chris Marker . -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.
