Political career
Scope and Contents
The Barbara McRoberts collection of Carolyn Campbell Pendray material dates from 1908 to 2023 and measures 2.5 linear inches (in 1 box). The collection is organized into three series: Biography, Political career, and Family.
The Biography series (1908-2023) contains materials related to Pendray’s personal life. It includes biographical articles and other resources, documentation of awards and memorials honoring Pendray, materials related to her Daughters of the American Revolution membership, and photographs.
The Political career series (1912-1957) includes materials related to her elected position with the Henry County schools and Iowa legislature. This series includes Pendray’s copy of her first speech delivered to the 43rd session of the Iowa House of Representatives, as well as newspaper clippings documenting her time in the legislature. This series also includes two items donated by Signe Skott Cooper: Pendray's Senate campaign card and a scrapbook of the extraordinary session of the 45th Iowa General Assembly, in which Pendray served during her time as senator. The scrapbook contains a note indicating that at one point it was given to Minnette Doderer, another woman legislator who began serving in the 1960s, by a colleague from Mount Pleasant.
The Family series (1927-2020) contains materials related to Pendray’s parents, husband, and extended family, such as Pendray’s copy of the Campbell family tree, William Pendray’s obituary, photographs of family members, and photographs of family gravesites.
