Records of the Alpha Chapter of Iowa, Phi Beta Kappa have been received by The University of Iowa Archives primarily through deposits from Chapter officers over the years. They are organized into seven series: History and Constitution, Administrative Materials, Financial Records, General Correspondence, Membership, High School Scholarship Awards, and Publications and Other Printed Materials. In addition to the General Correspondence series, correspondence specifically related to other series will be found in: Finance, Membership, and High School Scholarship Awards.

Philomathean Society records and three volumes of programs.

This collection contains a materials documenting the lives of those living in and acting as part of the Quadrangle dormitory at the University of Iowa. This includes a scrapbook produced by its residence and a constitution for their governing association.

Refocus was founded in 1965 as a joint student-faculty-staff project coordinated initially by the Iowa Memorial Union Board Films Area and, later, funded by UI Student Government.

The Refocus collection in the Archives (RG02.0003.026) includes 6.0 lin. ft. of material from 1965 to 1979, mainly correspondence, programs, and sample posters. The collection is not processed but is open for research. We also have two folders, mostly of newspaper clippings, in our student clubs and organizations vertical file (RG01.0015.004). There is no evidence of any Refocus activity after 1979.

The Records of the River City Housing Collective consist of five series: Administrative, Houses, Issues, Cooperatives (other), and History. Included are Board of Directors minutes and meeting agendas, financial records such as rent payment histories and expense reports, and newsletters.

The Records of the Scottish Highlanders include correspondence, committee minutes, trip and performance event notes, newsletters, programs, reunion information, photographs and other materials.

This collection consists of a de-constructed photo album and contains images that William and Leora Stearns took of the international students who stayed with them during the holidays in Osage, Iowa. The collection also includes a letter sent to them, a program from the community's Thanksgiving event that they hosted for international students, and a newspaper clipping of the Stearns' hosting international students.

The Papers of Steven Allen Carlson consist primarily of journals he began to write while a high school student and continued until 2015. The papers also include his high school yearbooks, photographs and slides, sales books from his record business, a draft of a novel “Full House Empty Seats,” house message books, exhibit information, and a textile high school project. Many photographs and other material, such as brochures and event keepsakes, are intermingled within the journals.

The journals provide a unique and intimate perspective on the emergence and growth of Iowa City’s gay community during the 1960s-2000s.
