Scope and Contents This work consists mostly of feminist material. According to her web site, Barbara Drucker received her MFA from UCLA, where she is currently the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs for the School of the Arts and Architecture and Professor of Painting and Drawing in the Department of Art. From 1996 - 2001 she was the founder/director of The Living Room, an alternative exhibition space in Santa Monica, California. Drucker's art practice includes painting, mixed media installation, sculpture, photography and video. In an author's afterward, Foer writes that he used the text of Bruno Schultz''s book "The Street of Crocodiles" to create this "imagined larger book, this ultimate book, that every word ever written, spoken or thought is exhumed." Bruno Schultz was killed by the Nazis and only two volumns of his writing survive. The artist Olafur Eliason writes that Tree of Codes is "an extraordinary journey that activates the layers of time and space involved in the handling of a book and its heap of words." A portion of the inked Syriaque letters are overpainted in white that either obliterates some letters or covers them in a veil of paint. In addition, fine red lines are painted across the entire surface in patterns of triangles, horizontal lines or parallel arcs. The source text is Update Proceedings, a symposium, held by Key Pharmaceuticals on their respiratory drug, "Theodur." One of three copies, all slightly different, were commissioned by Sackner. The other two were given as gifts to officers of the company.
