Scope and Contents Dust jacket: Over the last twenty years an increasing number of artists have turned to expressing themselves through postcards. Whether by way of installation, collage, addition to, or alteration of existing postcards, or the production of postcards themselves, many prominent artists employ the medium in some form. Artists' Postcards traces the origin of artists' fascination with postcards from the early 1900s but with a focus on the contemporary, revealing the significant number of artists who have made creative and unusual artworks in postcard form. With 400 images of postcards created by many well-known artists, Artists' Postcards is the first critical guide to the subject. From surrealists to Fluxus and conceptual artists, this book includes an array of historical and contemporary postcards by such artists as George Grosz, Bruce Nauman, Richard Long, David Hockney, Richard Hamilton, Susan Hiller, Joseph Beuys, Ben Vautier, Dieter Roth, Ray Johnson, Gordon Matta-Clark, Gavin...

Scope and Contents

This book tracks the interdisciplinary and international arts movement that began in the 1960's..."Fluxus is both an attitude towards art -making and culture that is not historically limited, and a specific historic group...This attitude is in part traceable to the network of interrelated ideas about culture, politics, and society explored earlier in the twentieth century by the Futurists, the Dadaists, and the Surrealists. Some of these same ideas were later explored after World War II by artists associated with groups such as Lettrism, International Situationism, Nouveau Realisme, and Fluxus itself." -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.

Scope and Contents

Subitiled "L'art vivant autour du musee de Lodz," the exhibition and catalogue was more than a panorama or a retrospective of the intellectual, artistique and spiritual center of art in Poland. It was a multi-discipline manifestation of a utopian community which started in the 1930's and gave a voice to the cultural and artistic collaboration between Poland and France. The Sackners attended this exhibition held at the Pompidou Centre. -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.
