Emigre has consistently broken the rules of graphic design and publishing and has proven to be both controversial and influential in the field.Since there was no budget to produce Emigre and the Macintosh computer had not yet been invented, the first issues were created with typings and photocopied paste-ups.Emigre 21 was produced almost entirely by undergraduate and graduate students at California Institute for the Arts at Valencia. The issue consisted of actual school assignments. -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.
