levy writes an angry, depressed letter about his relation to the state of politics, police and the court system in Cleveland. He indicates that he has turned to drugs because of his problems in the city. Inman writes back that levy's letter is self-pitying and admonishes him about using drugs because "if we use kicks and drugs as an excuse, then already we enter the most negative aspects of the system we claim we're against...it is the most sinister kind of cop-out." -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.

Heilbrun fled Cleveland rather than face drug charges. The real charges against him were that he was running a peace and flowers bookstore in Cleveland at a time when the authorities of that hay seed city were determined to destroy the emergent counter culture. Grady M. Jones contributed a great cover drawing and Kryss a fine screen print to the interior. This memorial volume prints a fine poem by d.a. levy, works by Heilbrun, r.j.s., kryss, Geoffrey A. According to Kent Taylor in a personal communication (1997) to the Sackners, this was d.a levy's first book. Further, he believes that "Dave" in the inscription was Dave Williams, a boy friend of Taylor's first wife, levy's cousin, Joan.
