Kostelanetz defines 'Text-sound' to mean "language unspecific in pitch, which coheres in terms of sound, rather than syntex or semantics." This book consists of scores, manifestos, self-interviews, scripts, performance instructions, critical essays, and theoretical remarks. In Walter Abish's three page story, "Auctioning Australia," all the words begin with the letter 'a.' Kenneth King's "Word Raid" consists of seven pages of tongue twisters. He includes essays on the work of Michael Joseph Phillips and Harry Polkinhorn. Kostelanetz raves about the esthetics of Peter Rose's film, "Pressures of the Text (1983), a work held by the Sackner Archive.
